Google Page Rank Update 2007
In general the higher the page rank of your website, the higher your site is likely to be ranked in the major search engines. High rankings equals high traffic. There are, of course, websites that receive a large amount of traffic which have a low page rank score but these are in the minority.
As a point of argument google itself, has a page rank of ten. MSN has a page rank of eight, yahoo has a page rank of ten and the BBC has a page rank of nine. These are, of course, high quality sites and have a high page rank to reflect this.
If you have a site of interest, other webmasters are likely to link to you as your content would be of value to their visitors. The more backward links you have pointing to your website, especially if they are from other websites/web pages with a high page rank value, the more likely it will be that your site will achieve a high page rank.
What this ultimately shows to people who visit your site is that your site is potentially one that can be trusted and that it has received a number of links/votes from other webmasters. This can only be good for your overall sales. People who think that page rank is dead are having a laugh!
